    Engro wins big at ACCA – WWF Awards (2009)

    Karachi, 23 April 2010 – Engro Corporation Limited (formerly Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited) and Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited won separate awards at the 8th Annual ACCA-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards (PERA) 2009.

    Engro Corporation Limited won the best sustainability award for 2009, while Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited was awarded a commendation for commitment to excellence in sustainability reporting. Engro Corp was also cited for being the only Company to report on its environmental footprint, with the Company’s CSR Report for 2008 highlighted as a “first-class, interesting, edifying document illustrating the commitment of Engro to continuous improvement in sustainability reporting”.

    The ACCA awards are part of an effort to improve the accountability and transparency of businesses and the communication of such values. ACCA is now involved in reporting awards in over 20 countries, with the Pakistan Awards having been established in partnership with WWF. These awards have helped raise the profile of corporate disclosure and serve to encourage non-reporters to publish information on their impacts and efforts.

    Engro’s CSR Efforts
    Engro’s efforts in building sustainability in Pakistan are demonstrated by its commitment to consistently contribute 1% of profits before tax towards social investments. Engro’s major social spending is in the areas of skill development, education, health, environment, emergency relief efforts and philanthropy. Engro Corp has the distinction of being in a select group of companies, which are signatories to the UN Global Compact (UNGC), as well as being part of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
