Karachi, August 16, 2010: Engro Corporation Limited has undertaken the initiative to coordinate the relief and rehabilitation of thousands of people displaced by the floods. Engro Corp has signed an MoU with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) to initiate relief efforts in the areas of Ghotki & Sukkur in Sindh and Southern Punjab. In Sindh, PPAF’s partner organizations Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) and HANDS will be leading the efforts.
Engro Corp and PPAF have undertaken the challenge to raise PKR 200 million for the restoration of the lives and livelihood of those affected by the floods. Over half of these funds are being contributed by Engro Corp, its subsidiaries and employees. The Company has also made a call for support from the general public to donate in cash and kind to help with the relief effort. All activities are being coordinated by Engro Corp through its corporate website.
Following the finalization of the partnership, Tahir Jawaid, VP Public Affairs & Human Resources, Engro Corp said, “Engro Corp shares a common history with Pakistan, and we consider it an obligation to respond in Pakistan’s time of need. The true scale of the disaster is yet to be assessed, which is why the entire country must rally together to make a unified effort at alleviating the anguish of our fellow citizens. Engro Corp will manage all monetary donations towards the relief efforts, which can be made by the general public and other organizations wishing to contribute towards the relief effort. There is also an urgent need for a constant supply of foods and beverages, clothes, medicines and medical assistance, tents and other required items at various locations. Engro Corp is also organizing a massive volunteer effort to organize doctors, hygiene experts, relief experienced specialists and manpower on the ground to facilitate relief efforts.
