    Engro Chemical wins prestigious Asian csr award

    Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited has been awarded the Best Sustainability Reporter in the Local Listed Company category in the ACCA-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards 2006.

    Expressing their overall comments about Engro Chemical’s Sustainability Report 2005 the judges in their report wrote: “Engro Chemicals Report can be classified as a report that sets standards for sustainability reporting in Pakistan. It uses GRI guidelines and includes information about Stakeholders’ Engagement Process. Overall, the report is engaging and easy to read. Throughout the report, commentaries are illustrated well with diagrams, charts and pictures. It is a praise-worthy effort in sustainability reporting.”

    The awards distribution ceremony was held in Islamabad where Minister of State for Environment Malik Amin Aslam Khan was the chief guest.

    Speaking on the occasion Tahir Jawaid, General Manager, HR & Public Affair, Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited said, “Engro has invested over Rs. 390 million in environmental projects between 1991 and 2005. Since 2004, we have outlined our “Environmental Footprint”, quantifying air, land and water pollutants. Engro is among a handful of Pakistani companies that voluntarily disclose National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) compliance to the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency.”

    Engro Asahi Polymer & Chemicals Limited’s Environmental Report 2006 was declared the Best Environmental Report in the Local Unlisted Category in the ACCA-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards 2006. The overall comments from the judges about the Engro Asahi report were: “It is a comprehensive report that concisely discloses relevant, comparable and reliable quantitative, qualitative and graphical information about environmental performance.”

    This is the second consecutive year that Engro Asahi Polymer and Chemicals Ltd. has won the best Environmental Report award in the local unlisted category.

    The Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards were launched in 2001. The main aim of these awards is to recognise and reward those organisations which report and disclose environmental, social or full sustainability performance; to encourage best practices in environmental, social and sustainability reporting and to raise awareness of corporate social responsibility issues and performance.
