We as a nation need to stand tall and proud in celebration of the talents, abilities and victories that various Pakistanis have amassed over the years. Though not all talented people are recognized for their victories neither are they trained and polished to better showcase their skills, it is up to us to give due credit to those amongst us who have made a positive impact and brought excellence to Pakistan.

Keeping in line with its vision of ‘enabling excellence’ Engro Corporation initiated the Engro Excellence Awards in 2011. The Engro Excellence Awards were envisaged with the desire of giving Pakistan an opportunity to present itself to the world as a nation of talented people who are capable, knowledgeable and innovative. The idea is to honor those individuals who serve as inspiration to us all and have made their mark in various fields.

The Engro Excellence Awards will be an annual event and in the long run aims to be seen as one of the most prestigious civilian awards ceremony in Pakistan. To sustain this goal, a lot of thought went into each and every detail related to these awards. From the jury members to the prizes awarded to the relevance of location and categories, there was no detail that was too little to be overlooked. The dedicated team behind this initiative has left no stone unturned in their effort to ensure the smooth sailing of this event year after year.

The physical memento awarded to the winners is very different from the usual trophy that most awards take the form of. Each category has its own medallion which doesn’t only honor the recipient but also pays tribute to posthumous contributors of the said category. Engro does a threefold job with these awards; we recognize the past as well as the present and encourage the future.

The first Engro Excellence Awards recognized the contributions of three worthy recipients, one each from the fields of social and humanitarian services, literature and physical& applied sciences. Nominees were adjudicated by a jury comprising of five of Pakistan’s most esteemed and respected personalities, each of whom is considered a symbol of excellence and beacons of hope in their relevant fields. Dr. Ishrat Hussain is the Chairman of the jury and is assisted assisted by Dr. Iqbal Chowdhry, Dr. Nafis Sadik, Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali and Mr. IftikharArif.

In 2011 two new categories have been added;arts and social sciences. The idea is to provide icons in various fields that our youth can aspire to. Every year the Excellence Awards will add new categories to enable excellence worldwide.

By recognizing these honorable members of the society, Engro Excellence Award play their small step in the right direction of promoting excellence in the society and serving as an inspiration to us all of how hard work and achievements need to be truly celebrated.
