    Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company provides truck driving training to 200 Thari locals

    Karachi, 27th June: Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), under its commitment to create local jobs, has initiated truck driver training and employment program through NLC. In first phase, 200 locals from Taluka Islamkot, Mithi, and Nagarparkar have been selected. The number will increase in near future for residents of District Tharparkar. The Company is committed to creating several hundred jobs in the next few months to support poverty alleviation and establish itself as an employer of choice in Tharparkar.

    The trainee drivers were selected after a 10-dayrecruitment drive wherein more than 1200 locals were evaluated against set criteria. The remaining applicants will be considered for other skill training programs. Selected drivers will undergo a three-month training course at National Logistics Cell, Dina and after qualifying entry requirements they will be offered employment at SECMC’s Thar Coal Block II in Islamkot.

    SECMC corporate responsibility vision is to support local Thari youth in developing their skills in various technical and non-technical fields. The Company has also initiated similar training programs in masonry, electrical, HVAC, mechanical and plumbing courses with leading organizations such as Hunar Foundation and Amantech.

    The objective of SECMC’s employment drive is to create job opportunities for local communities who can actively contribute to the development of Thar Coal Block-II project.
