engro forges partnerships for change

The recent floods have left almost one fifth of the country in turmoil, with millions of victims in desperate need of help. It is at times like these that focus and determination are called for, in order to devise strategic and long term solutions to benefit those in need.It is with the intent to respond to this call that Engro has partnered with various organizations who share the same goals.

In Sindh, Engro has partnered with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) to facilitate flood victims in District Ghotki, where a number of Engro’s manufacturing facilities are also located. Engro Foundation, which is the CSR wing of Engro Corp, is engaged in a number of communities in the area, and is working with PPAF and SRSO to provide food rations, shelter, hand pumps, latrines, and livestock feed & vaccination.

Also in Sindh, Engro and HANDS are working together for the distribution of food and water amongst the flood victims of Sukkur. A lot of focus is also being put into the set up of medical camps in the area, as well as arranging medicines for these camps. Engro has also partnered with Farmer Development Organiztion (FDO) in Mehmood Goth to provide dry rations for over 400 families.

The army has always been a very integral part of Pakistan and has played a vital role in rehabilition efforts whenever a tragedy has struck the country. Engro Foundation is supporting the army’s relief efforts in Southern Punjab, specifically in Layyah and Muzzafargah, providing food rations for a thousand (1000) families in each district.

In addition to farming, the livelihood of most of the flood victims came from livestock rearing, of which a majority have been lost to the floods. The remaining animals are at a high risk of falling prey to water-borne diseases. Engro Foundation is working with a number of partners to ensure the health and continuing productivity of these animals. Engro Foundation team members have undergone urgent animal aid training with Pfizer and have started work in areas of south punjab to treat over 30,000 animals.

Apart from partnering with various organizations, Engro has coordinated with various industry partners to arrange and distribute aid to the flood victims. The most noted of these has been the dispatch of ten (10) trucks of milk donated in collaboration with Tetra Pak. In addition 418,556 liters of milk have been distributed in Sindh and South Punjab.

USAID is our co-partner in the Khushaal Livestock Project for the rehabilitation of over 100,000 livestock in Larkana and Dadu.

Engro continues to look for opportunities to help the flood victims, and invites all organizations working in the flood hit areas to discuss possible partnerships. Please send details or queries to floodrelief@engro.com
