Engro and Green Cardamom highlight the art of Fatah Halepoto

Karachi, 30 June 2010 – Engro Corporation Limited has partnered with Green Cardamom to organize an exhibition as a tribute to Fatah Halepoto, the renowned Sindhi art teacher, artist and writer. Titled Fatah Jay Aassay Passay, the exhibition is being organized from July 1 to 15, at the VM Art Gallery in the Rangoonwala Community Centre, Karachi.

Addressing the inaugural session, Aman ul Haque, Manager, Public Affairs & Corporate Communications at Engro Corp highlighted, “The exhibition is especially close to Engro because of our 40 year old bond with Sindh, ever since we set up our first fertilizer facility in Daharki, Sindh. Fatah has been critical in helping his protégés realize their potential, an achievement that reflects Engro Corp’s ambition of ‘enabling excellence’ amongst the people and communities it works with. Engro Corp appreciates Green Cardamom’s initiative in becoming one of most visible vehicles for the international promotion of Pakistani contemporary art.”

Hammad Nasar, Curator & Co founder of Green Cardamom, said ‘This is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on the influence of a legendary teacher of Hyderabad –Fatah Halepoto. The exhibition is a compilation of the creations of seven artists whose works are reflective of their teachers’ approach, style and flare. Some of the creations featured at the event have gone on to national, and in some cases, international success.’

The seven artists featured in the exhibition have either been taught directly by Halepoto or influenced by his approach. The exhibition has been conceived as a vehicle for some of the many young artists he inspired and mentored to pay homage to his influence through their work. Equally importantly, it explores the remarkable flourishing of raw artistic talent from Sindh.
